Description:
Perrot was a pupil of Watelet and Michalon, who specialised in architectural and topographical paintings. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1824 and 1849 and was admired at the time for the faithfulness with which he rendered buildings and his sensibility to lighting effects. Some of his topographical views were published (undated) in Florence with an accompanying text in French and Italian as Modelli di topografia disegni ed acquerelli da A.M.P.
This bird’s view of the Arno is taken from a viewpoint near the left bank of the Arno looking upstream towards the Ponte Vecchio. To the right can be seen the Uffizi. In 1844 Perrot painted another view of Florence, showing the Campanile, which is now in the Musée des Beaux Arts, Quimper and a view of the Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza, painted in 1831, is the Assemblée Nationale, Paris.
