Description:
The Colnaghi picture is a typical work by Jules Ferdinard Medard. He specialized in floral still lifes, often arranged – as here – more formally in a vase, but also sometimes scattered more casually across a tabletop. A pupil of Jean Marie Reigner at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Lyon in 1871, he exhibited his works there at the Salon des Printemps from 1875, and then from 1878 at the Paris Salon. He won acclaim for his works in his lifetime and had a number of pupils.
