Ferriere can be considered to be one of the best of the Geneva School of the end of the 19th Century. In 1793 he was in England where he had great success and painted the royal family. From 1793 to 1804 he exhibited at the Royal Academy. In 1805 he went to St. Petersburg. From there he went to Moscow where he lost all his fortune in the fire of 1812. He returned to St. Petersburg where he was appointed a mmeber of the Academy in 1813 and in 1817 he returned to England.
