(Maastricht c. 1633 – after 1690 Berlin)
Born in Maastricht around 1633, Hendrick de Fromantiou was called to Potsdam as court painter to the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm. In 1672 he lived temporarily in Amsterdam, where he married the daughter of the painter Philips Wouwerman. From 1674 on, he took up residence in Potsdam and travelled to London (1682), Amsterdam (1683), The Hague (1683) and Gdansk (1684) as an art agent on behalf of the Great Elector. In 1687 he was officially appointed Curator of the Electoral Collection of Fine Art, and in 1689 Court Painter to the Elector Friedrich III.
