Laurence Stephen Lowry was a painter of figures and industrial landscapes. Born in Machester, he studied at Manchester School of Art and Salford School of Art. He was made a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1935. Several of his works are in the Tate Gallery. He exhibited from 1926-1940 at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Lefevre Gallery; Manchester City Art Gallery; New English Art Club; Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Hibernian Academy; Royal Institute of Oil Painters; Royal Scottish Academy.
